This a close relative to the more common Szechuan/Sichuan peppercorn. Txiv Siav has a distinct feature of having sharp spikes running center lengthwise on the leaves, a feature absent from Szechuan/Sichuan peppercorn. In culinary uses, Txiv Siav is commonly used in soups, stews, and pepper pastes. Medicinally, it’s used to cure stomach pains, fevers, common cold, coughs, headaches and more. Contrary to popular belief, these are not commonly found Prickly Ash that are native to the U.S. and Canada.
